The Art Shoppe @CAA

The Chicago Art Book Fair’s Open Program is a platform for CABF exhibitors to self-curate their own workshops, talks, and screenings. All Open Program Events take place at the Art Shoppe, on the first floor of the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. The Art Shoppe is accessible from inside CAA, but there is also a separate street entrance at 71 E Madison St.

Presentation & Book Signing: Passenger Pigeon Press

Artist Tammy Nguyen leads a presentation on Passenger Pigeon Press and her current show How To Breathe in Selected Tropics, on view at the Joan Flasch Artist Book Collection as part of CABF. PPP is an independent small press whose releases address geopolitics, science, and identity through visual art and writing, and offers a quarterly subscription program of four handmade artist books a year. The presentation concludes with a book signing, which will continue at table 411 after the event.

New Release: 5x7 presents Micah Lexier

Each artist that collaborates on a 5x7 edition is asked how they might challenge the format with their distinct artistic approach. Canadian artist Micah Lexier expands on his love for envelopes and puzzles by creating two minimalist 5x7 inch puzzles that come packaged in one, custom-made 5x7 inch envelope.

Presentation: Fully Booked

Fully Booked premiered in 2017 as the only art book fair in the United Arab Emirates. The fair serves as a platform to consider the medium of the artist book as a “multi-site”— a tactile, portable, and accessible form. This presentation highlights a selection of Middle Eastern, North African, Arab, and Islamic independent publishers and artists' book-makers, accompanied by images and video.

The program features work screened at the 63rd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen (Germany), including groundbreaking new releases from Nadav Assor, Sky Hopinka, Kent Lambert, Dana Levy, Jessie Mott & Steve Reinke, and Martine Syms.
